Danielle's Highlight of Tuesday
So at VBS I noticed a girl that was always all by herself and she didn't look happy and she didn't smile often. So yesterday was my craft day and i was just there helping the kids out and I started to talk to her and at first she didn't really want to talk to me she was just kind of quiet but i stayed there and I help her color and finally she started talking about what she likes and ... was just in a better mood and i asked her if she liked her nails painted and she did but doesn't have any nail polish and i said i would bring some of mine and i helped walk her home and she was laughing it was just so neat to see that someone could just open up after just talking to her it was awesome

NOLA Beans
So the coffee shop that has internet access is called NOLA Beans... for those of you who don't know the word NOLA, it stands for New Orleans, Louisianna (LA) therfore, N.O.L.A. So anyways I feel like i should buy coffee if i'm going to use their internet... darn, i guess I'll sacrifice.
I will say this trip is different than other trips i've experienced because there IS a coffee shop within distance. A nice luxury I suppose.
Our first VBS had 22 kids, which was 10 more than we expected. Our kids just jumped right in to connect with the street kids which was so fun to watch. I have been amazed at what "go getters" our team is. They have been going the extra mile in EVERYTHING, which is awesome. I knew they would be a strong team but I had no idea they'd be this amazing. God is moving through all of us for sure!
Last night we made a drive to the M-I-S-S-I-S-S-I-P-P-I River. I spell it out because everytime i say it I spell it which the kids think is incredibly ridiculous. :) I mean that was one word we learned how to spell that I NEVER use.
We woke up this morning and went back to the same neighborhood we were in yesterday to help another lady on that street with some weeds. We had told her we would be coming back and sure enough after we finished she had a meal prepared for us. Our AIM leader was with us so we all sat down and enjoyed some homecooked food and prayed with her. The yard work was a stretch for most of us. We worked in her neighbor's yard which had weeds to our waist. Zack took the weedwacker to everything and we stood on guard for flying debris... including cockroaches. Let me just say all of us girls have never danced around and screeched so much. They were EVERYWHERE and if you stood in one place for too long they would crawl up your legs. We had an awesome time this morning and now have a small break before we are heading to vbs.
We are doing great! Thanks for your prayers we feel them! Continue to pray for endurance, hydration, and for us to be able to hear where God is leading us each day of this trip.

Another quick update!
We have been doing great! Today we did a prayer walk and ended up helping a woman weedwack her whole yard which had about three feet of weeds. She had just come back after the storm and had lost everything. The kids did awesome and we had some awesome conversations with the people in that neighborhood. It was HOT today!! We have a longer lunch break today so in an hour or so we will head to do our first day of VBS. We are having a great time battling the heat.
Please pray for endurance with the heat and for great contacts with the people God leads us to. Everyone is doing great though and it has been so fun to see everyone stepping out of their comfort zone.
If this blog is random i am soo distracted right now because I'm in a coffee shop with people talking all around me :)

day 1
I’ve been wanting to post for some time, but just never seem to get the opportunity because we are jam packing a lot in everyday so far.
The drive from Lewiston to Ellensburg was a long one! We stopped 3 times in three house, but thankfully we had somewhat of a flexible schedule where we didn’t feel we needed to rush. We made a stop at Palouse Falls on the way since most us hadn’t been there.
Once we got to Ellensburg we settled into our sleeping arrangements and went to bed fairly early. Woke up Friday am to eat breakfast my mom made us and then we headed for our Hike…with a twist. “with a twist” has seemed to be our theme so far.
The team had a partner and on partner was blindfolded for the hike and the other hand to verbally guide them. After they had their chance, they switched and they switched partners. It was a fun time that ended up at Umptanum Falls where we were able to sit and do an activity together.
The rest of the day was filled with VBS preparation, by practicing all of our areas. A day of VBS consists of Music, Story/Drama, memory verse, invitation, crafts, games… so we divied up who is doing what each day. We feel as prepared as we can be, and our project leader prepared us to “be prepared for anything and to be flexible.”
We had dinner prepared by my grandma and of course she went all out making, ham, mashed potatoes, rolls, veggies and fruit salad. I only mention all of this because the teens were sooooo excited about it and compared it to a thanksgiving feast. Ha!!
We then played some games and attempted to head to bed early since we had to leave Ellensburg at two in the morning the next day. Well it’s kind of hard to sleep in broad daylight, so needless to say I went to be about 11pm and woke up at 1:40am.
We made it the Sea-Tac at 4:00 unloaded made it through security with only 15 minutes to spare. I am on a separate flight from the rest of them for $$ reasons. They only a certain number of tickets left on the cheaper of the flights, so I’m flying separate, but we are meeting in Dallas and are on the last flight of the day together. I have a 3 hour layover.
. But I did fall asleep before take up and slept about 3 hours of the flight to dallas, so I’m feeling somewhat rested now.
That’s all for now. Not sure how often I can update. But I may be able to tweet more often. Check my twitter at http://twitter.com/starbucksgirl and you can hear more sparatic updates most likely.
Signing off. Cassie
